Toluca Lake

Toluca Lake adopted a swan on a rippled lake as its logo-an apropos image for this lovely San Fernando Valley community. The area was once a part of North Hollywood called Toluca, until residents decided to change the name to attract a more glamorous audience. It literally straddles North Hollywood and Burbank, but has a personality and appeal all its own. The name Toluca means "fertile valley," and its lush green trees and shrubbery, natural (albeit augmented) spring fed lake, and abundant flowers remind us that this area was once covered in fruit and nut orchards. Obviously the lake is the central focus and site of the most coveted real estate in the neighborhood, not to mention a number of sporting activities (yes, you can actually fish in Toluca Lake!). The private lake, hidden from public view by shoreline homes and the sprawling Lakeside Golf Club, is also used for private recreational boating and swimming. Over the years, many famous celebrities have made Toluca Lake home, including Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Donny and Marie Osmond and Ron Howard, to name a few. Amelia Earhart had a home here that still exists today, including the tree under which she signed the flight plan for her fateful last flight. The well-kept homes and gardens range from grand to more modest, and are mostly Spanish Revival and Mission Revival. Many entertainment executives and professionals, as well as young families, are drawn to the community's safe, clean and wholesome character.
